EBCI Will Work to Bring Sporting Events to the Qualla Boundary With a $35,000 Grant from Cherokee Preservation Foundation

CHEROKEE, NC, October 30, 2008 – Cherokee Preservation Foundation announced it has made a $35,000 grant to EBCI Marketing and Promotion so the Tribal government can contract with a sports promoter to attract sporting events to the Qualla Boundary.

EBCI Marketing and Promotion applied for the grant with the goal of increasing the Tribal levy by attracting events such as large-scale baseball, basketball and softball tournaments.  Visitors would be offered special packages to encourage visits to EBCI cultural attractions and businesses on the Qualla Boundary.

Cherokee Preservation Foundation (www.cpfdn.org) was established on November 14, 2000, as part of the Second Amendment to the Tribal-State Compact between the EBCI and the State of North Carolina.
